My name is Nicholas Jansen. I’ve been a member of OBSID’s Urban Management team since 2011.
It is important to keep Observatory clean because of the health and hygiene benefits of a clean community.
I am grateful to have a job and happy to come to work. I am delivering a service to the Observatory community. I believe it is important to honour your commitments.

SIGN UP FOR 2 MONTHS OF FREE RECYCLING! ♻️
As technical sponsor of the 2023 @capetownmarathon, @adidasZA is supporting the event’s sustainability goals by offering two months of free recycling collections to residents of Observatory, Rondebosch, Newlands and Claremont.
Sign up before Friday 6 October, and yellow Adidas recycling bags will be dropped off at your home.
The first collection from Obs will be Friday 13 October, and then each Friday after that, with the last collection being Friday 1 December 2023.
Residents need to register in advance for the free service, and only the Adidas-branded recycling bags will be collected.

OBSID is a supplementary or “top up” service to the City of Cape Town and not a replacement for the City’s range of services and departments.
We provide visible crime deterrents through our public safety programme, keep the public spaces of Observatory clean and green, remove graffiti from public infrastructure and offer outreach services to people living in the public spaces. Let’s end hunger in Observatory. If someone asks you for food, tell them about Youth Solutions, based in Shelley Street (on the border of Obs and Salt River). Youth Solutions is an NPO reaching out to those in need and serves breakfast and dinner each weekday. #OBISD #SocialDevelopment #ObservatoryCapeTown #ILoveObs

Cigarette butts are the most commonly collected items during clean-ups, and discarded cigarette butts are common culprits for fires in homes and public spaces. Protect Observatory by throwing your butts in the nearest Maxibin. OBSID has installed Maxibins along Lower Main Road and in a few other spots in Obs. #KeepingObsClean #Maxibin #ObservatoryCapeTown

By leaving your sunglasses/laptops/gym bags/USB sticks/hoodies/textbooks/sneakers/headphones on your car seat, you are inviting someone to break into your car and steal your valuables. We receive daily complaints about rubbish and dumping in Obs – but as fast as we clean it up, more is dumped. Please help us by using your own bins for your rubbish, by sticking to bin collection days and recycling what you can.
